Suitable Towbars For Xc70 03 Reg
Hi, Sorry if someone has already answered this one but I couldn't find it. We are looking to put a detachable towbar on our XC70 (has the metal plate just below the boot) Can anyone advise if this is possible? We would be looking for it to be fitted rather than trust our wiring expertise. Does the towbar have to Volvo or can it be Brink/Witter etc?
Thanks. |

My tow bar is a Volvo one but was manufactured by Brink. All cars since S reg. have to have a type approved tow bar, so they will all fit to all manufacturers mounting points. You will be fine with Witter Brink or Bosal who are the big players. Have a look on Towsure and Towequipe to get an idea what you want.

I have the Volvo detachable one, luckily it was fitted when I bought the car so the hideous £400+ price tag didn't worry me. Given the cost of the car it's worth getting the proper thing though. You even get a branded "stump cover" for when the ball is removed.
One thing though - it's worth getting the wiring checked by an auto specialist as dealers are notoriously rubbish when it comes to towbar wiring and fitting. Some dealers even contract the fitting out (and suitably increase the price of course...)

Towbar For Xc70
Thank-you to all who responded. We opted for a Volvo fitted one at a competitive price by our local Volvo dealer.

You get what you pay for, volvo's towbars are expensive but the quality is second to none,
Just have a look at one and compare it to a none gen one and you will see the differance,

Does anyone know who manufacturers the removeable towbar for the XC70 for Volvo. Just been quoted £645 for a towbar from Volvo and don't believe that they manufacture them themselves.
Towbar specialists have quoted about £400 for Witter or Westfalia. Noticed a V70 parked up with a removeable Volvo branded Brink towbar recently. Unfortunately Brink don't list a removeable towbar for the XC70. Cheers Duncan |
