Fuel filter cover...is there one?

Just changed the fuel filter on my MY2005 163d5.
The plastic cartridge came off ok and the filter element clicked into place no problem. I had to reuse the old rubber seal as the new green one supplied stopped me screwing on the plastic cartridge.

Now to a question...

At the side of the filter there is a plastic mount/bracket thing. This looks like it should have something clipped onto it, maybe a mud shield or something?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

No there is nothing else there .

The green seal will fit with a little diesel fuel smeared around it for lubrication ..
