Anyone got any reports about either of these two facilities:

Cross Street Garage, Sale (on the list of non-franchise garages but no feedback I can find)

or

INDEPENDENT VEHICLES LIMITED, Unit 3, Manway Business Park , off Canal Road, Timperley (not on any list but friends had found them by chance and they do have a small website http://www.independentvltd.co.uk/).

Both are close buy and convenient for them.

Most recent service was apparently done at Kwik-Fit (!!). Other than that they were thinking of going to the main dealership in Warrington. I know there's the likes of Hallmark in Stockport but they really need someone more local to them if possible.

Thanks
Robbie, I have been to the Timperly garage with my amazon once and was satisfied with the work. It was only a bit of rough running but the guy was decent and sorted it out well.

Another positive vote for VMS Cars in Wantage (OXON). Took my 2004 XC90 up there to have a steering issue looked at - they poked around and repaired something that had worked loose with no charge. While looking under the bonnet Mervyn noticed that the aux belt & pulley system was the original design, which was the subject of a recommended (but not mandatory?) recall, and had not been replaced on my '90 so I booked it in for that to be done the following week. All has been done now for £175 incl. labour & genuine Volvo parts. I highly recommend this garage if you're in the Oxfordshire/West Berkshire/East Wiltshire area; they seem to really know their stuff. Mervyn is an ex-Master Technician from one of the Volvo Motorworld garages I believe.

Swedish Motor Services in Walhamstow are really good. They look after my mate's car and are very professional and don't overcharge at all.

For many years now the family and myself have used Joe at C.A.R.S. (Central Auto Repair Services), Martland Ind Estate, Worplesdon, Woking. GU22 0RQ Tel:01483 234910 for service and repair, including on my 1990 745. whose ups and downs appear on the Forum and in the Driver. In my opinion CARS cannot be faulted on efficiency; turnaround and price. If you need service in the NW Surrey area give them a try. Bob.

Can anyone in the Bradford area recommend an independent garage? The only one on the list doesn't seem to be there any more.

I can recommend a small indy called Al's Autos in Sturminster Marshall, Dorset.

Very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly service. Specialises in Volvos, we bought our V70 from him a couple of months ago and have been very pleased with the service.

My local independent is called Swindon Volvo and just used them I can highly recommend them. To fit a new timing belt, 2 new tensioners and an auxiliary belt cost just £249 which I thought was excellent. Their standard labour rate is a very reasonable £46 per hour and the service I received was first class.

Details can be found on their website here:
