You'd think that Volvo could just cache the last 30 seconds of video from the Intellisafe camera to memory and save it to disk if there's an impact or sharp jolt.

There are many of us on here who have installed dashcams on SPA Volvos. I haven't heard of anyone having problems. There are several earlier posts in this thread regarding installation.

This sounds like absolute nonsense. We have been using our Thinkware F770 with our MY19 XC60 for over six months now and never had even the slightest problem. Ask them to show you evidence of the problem.

I was given the same advice by the dealer when I collected my car a few weeks ago.

I can imagine that the more complex ones that also warn about speed cameras and can advise if the traffic light is on red for example, could have software that could interfere. Otherwise I don't see why there should be any conflict.

I was looking at the Thinkware Q800 and was put off for the reasons I made in my comment above. I was concerned the Advanced Driver Assistance System it includes might interfere. Have you ever been in a situation where you have needed to use the Intellisafe system in anger?

For those with dashcams, I was looking at those that give automatic cloud storage as I was concerned if someone stole the car, I would not get footage of the thieves as they would have the car and the SD card.

Has anyone any experience or comments either way? Thanks.

Does such a thing exist for a half-reasonable price? Or any price? It would need a SIM card with a very very generous data allowance.

We plan to fit a BlackVue DR900S-2CH to our new S60 in a few weeks' time. It has full real time cloud backup functionality. I will keep you posted on our progress. For what it's worth, I would never waste money on another Thinkware product again. Absolute junk.

I am now on my 3rd XC60 and subsequent my 3rd Dashcam.
Over that last 7 yrs I have used the Blackvue Range of 2 Channel Dashcams (Front & Rear) that have always been installed professionally by my local Dealer.
My current model is the Blackvue DR750S-2CH that can be purchased from Amazon from as little as £290 depending upon what capacity memory card you go for (I believe the bigger the better!)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Blackvue-DR...s%2C143&sr=8-4
If I were buying today I would go for the latest DR900 range that retails at £448
https://www.amazon.co.uk/BlackVue-DR...s%2C143&sr=8-3

Manufacturers site is at https://www.blackvue.com/dr900s-2ch/
One of the reason I use Blackvue is that I don’t want some big clumsy looking plastic brick attached to my windscreen, nor do I want a bulky onboard screen when I can easily connect to it over Wi-fi & view all it’s content from either the car itself or my sofa when parked in the garage and it’s on my house Wi-fi network.
As regards your question on cloud, I use the basic FOC Blackvue cloud that auto uploads video clips when taggged as ‘Alerts’ which uses my in car’s Data Sim with the Blackvue camera connected via the in car Wi-fi network.

This worked a treat when several years ago I parked at a Manchester Airport Hotel and was alerted 4 days later that my car was being driven at excessive speed, etc - so a quick login on my iPhone Blackvue app allowed me to actually view my car’s dashcam as it was being driven BUT also allowed me to speak to the Driver live - his English was not very clear and/or good!! Needless to say this Hotel’s carpark attendant drove a lot slower back to the carpark .........
When I returned to the U.K. suitable words where had with senior management with appropriate financial compensation being made in my direction.

Considering the value we pay for our cars ........ the cost of a proper dashcam is immaterial especially in the event of an accident which is why I always go for a 2CH model.
Hope this helps your decision making process - remember you get what you pay for - go cheap & you will regret it at a latter date.
