Default 740 Estate (1986) Tail cylinder lock replacement?

Hi all,

Just spent the morning taking my car apart, i removed the boot handle and cylinder lock, its well and truly seized so im after a replacement. I appreciate i will need a different key to the rest of the car but can live with this as it mainly will open with electric locks.

Has anyone managed to source a new one?

Thanks

Michael

Try your local Volvo dealer, they may even be able to provide one keyed alike to your original locks - note the use of the word original as it could be you already have different locks in the doors for whatever reason.

Also mix up some 50/50 acetone/synthetic ATF, shake it well and soak the lock in it, that may be enough to free it up. YOu'll need to put it in an empty jam jar with the lid on to prevent the acetone evaporating and give a shake every so often to keep it mixed so it can really penetrate.

Failing all else, you could get a lock kit from a breaker car, have a chat with Luke (360beast) as he often breaks 940s, if the car is erly enough (96 or older) the ignition barrel should come out very easily, likewise the door locks, glovebox and tailgate lock.
