Default V70R Engine Failure at 3000 Revs

I have a 2003 V70R estate which has been running OK for a number of years until recently. My local garage diagnosed a faulty fuel pump which was duly replaced along with the filter. The car ran fine for a few weeks but started loosing power and cutting out whilst I was driving on the M1. Not a pleasant experience! My local mechanic told me they thought I was loosing fuel pressure but they did not have the proper Volvo diagnostic tools so recommended that I take it to a local Volvo dealer for diagnosis. At first they informed me that it was a fault EVAP pipe and the petrol cap was letting in air (I didnt quite get that one!). However although they are trying to convince me these items needed changing but the car is still faulty having been with them for 2.5 weeks. They phoned me today to tell me that the petrol pump and filter need changing so thats another £££ on top of the £800 the bill already in place. Of course I had to point out that these items had already been replaced which seemed to take them by surprise. I am begining to wonder if they know what they are doing. Anyway can anybody out there provide any words of wisdom on what might be the problem here? Many thanks Robert

You need to replace the Fuel Pressure Sensor on the end of the fuel rail.

Part: "Bosch Fuel Pressure Sensor 0261230110"

Part costs approx £40 and is held on by 1 screw (Torx 25 shape).

Watch the video below for replacement:

As soon as I started reading, I thought fuel pressure regulator. My 2005 V70T5 had exactly the same symptoms, seems T5R92011 beat me to it.

Many thanks for you input. The garage have told me that they have eliminated any problems with the sensor but havnt yet rectified the problem. They are now telling me that its the fuel pressure control unit??? They have had my car for a month now and still no cure.

"...They are now telling me that its the fuel pressure control unit??? "

FYI: There is a PEM- a fuel pump control unit. I found mine dangling by its wires in my 2007's spare wheel well.
A bit of reading revealed they had been mounted outside in previous years and they were subject to water incursion.
One thread had pictures of metal flakes inside.

It's a small, silver box 7cm X 6cm X 3cm with 4 small feet for screws etc.

Default My V70R Problems still ongoing.

Its been a couple of months since my last post but without boring you with endless detail my V70 is still loosing power at high revs and intermittently cutting out. A previous post suggested that it was the fuel pressure sensor but the video supplied is not the same as my engine (B5254T4). I have tried but failed to locate where this is in my engine. Can anybody assist me in locating this. Just so you know the Volvo dealer who has been chasing theit tail on this for months told me they didnt think it was this item but I am loosing confidence in their ability to fix it so looking to implement a swap if I can locate this module.

Default V70R Enginine Failure at 3000 plus revs

Further to my last post last December I can report that the fuel pressure sensor and PEM has been changed but the fault is still there. A replacement pump was also tried but that didnt cure it either. The fault code is still saying losing fuel pressure so has anybody got any further suggestions?

Leaking injector(s)?
Was your replacement a Volvo pump?

Had a similar problem on my 2003 v70r , check the fuel pressure (should be a valve on the end of the fuel rail for this purpose) The fuel pressure is controlled by a vacuum operated valve on the fuel rail . check that the vacuum pipe is sound and it is pulling a vacuum when engine is running ,then the regulator for operation , I checked mine with a hand operated vacuum pump. Turned out it was knackered . Replaced it and all was well again .Hope this is of help.
