engine management light on v70 when towing???

hello all, this is my 1st post here, just joined, ive got a 2001 v70 2.4 auto,
i tow a caravan with it, however oftern when i tow the engine managment light comes on, it stays on for about a week then turns off.
theres no loss of powers or any other signs of ill health.
the towbar was fitted by volvo.
Any one any ideas, b4 i go to volvo and pay to be plugged in , last time i did this they couldnt come up with any answers and did nothing, apart from charge me £70 for the privalage,

just a thought could possble be knocking because its underload and the ecu light will flash if the knock sensor detects knock.

I have not towed with my 98 V70 2.5T as yet I still need to fit the towbar but I am sure I read on here somewhere about keeping the auto in 3rd gear if any problems occur while towing like I say not 100% sure on this so don't quote me on it have you tried a search of the forum for this problem or is there anything mentioned in the handbook
