Default Brake lights not working.

I realise this maybe in the wrong section. But please bear with me as I am sure my issue is related to the tow hitch wiring.

My brake lights stopped working at roughly the same time as my tow hitch was knocked by a concrete bollard (oops my fault) consequently the tow hitch wiring suffered. When I had a look at the back of the wiring sockets I found several wires had corroded and weren't located in their pins.

I am considering a short or broken connection in the tow hitch wiring the cause of the brake lights not working - very dangerous.

Which pin on the socket (Volvo installed tow hitch, from new 12 years old) is the brake light circuit for the trailer/van/horsebox? What colour wiring is the brake light circuit for the tow hitch?

Thanks,
Matt

Pin 6 is the brake light it's a red wire, could be it has bridgec to the white wire pin 1 which is the earth wire (or another wire) & may have blown the brake light fuse on your car

Thanks for the replies. I found the problem was the brake light switch.
I have disconnected the tow hitch wiring in the boot so hopefully no problems from that in the future.
