Tail Pipes for V70 AWD
Has anyone swapped the standard exhaust system from a V70 AWD to that of the type R (twin outlet). I understand that the fittings are different but wonder if this is just the pipe diameter or whether more serious mods. are required.
Thanks Mark |

RE: Tail Pipes for V70 AWD
Yes, I have done it. The local dealer just ordered up the rear silencers for a '99 R AWD model and fitted them - no problem. I had previously removed the blanking plate on the near side of the bumper and had fitted one of the trims to match the off-side (that was about £20 inc. painting). You also have to order the tailpipes - the two sides are slightly different and have different part numbers. I'm ceratinly not aware of any problem with 'fittings'.

RE: Tail Pipes for V70 AWD
Hi Sarge
Volvo told my local garage that I needed to buy the tail pipes AND mid-pipe at a cost of over £600. They then suggest that it might not fit and could not be returned! So, just to clarify, you bought the back box only and slapped it on no probs? And if I understand you correctly, there are two tailpipes that need to be purchased too? Cheers Mark |

RE: Tail Pipes for V70 AWD
That's about it, Mark. I'll check the part numbers tonight and post them up. Initially, Volvo told me that they thought it couldn't be done but through these Forums I became aware that it could. There's no need for the mid pipe, it's just the back section. The AWD already has two rear silencers and the mountings, it's just that the near-side one doesn't have its own outlet. You could perhaps use your exsiting tailpipe, but I bought a nice new shiny one so that it would match the one I had to buy for the near-side :-)

RE: Tail Pipes for V70 AWD
Mark,
Sorry for the delay. The silencers I used were part no. 9470703 (£238 +VAT); there were two clamps (part nos. 3507702 and 3507703 (£3.05 and £3.40 + VAT resepectively); the off-side tailpipe is part no. 9470988 and the nearside one is 8631696 (c£35.60 +VAT for the pair). Fitting was c£50.00 at my local dealer. The bumper trim was part no. 9484490 (£4.94+VAT) and it cost £25.00 + VAT to be painted! Hope that helps. Sarge '99 V70 AWD |
