Un-courteous courtesy lights...batty not happy!
Lads,
an unusual one, this time....leastwise i assume unusual! When i unlock the car on the remote, the 2 rear door red courtesy lights come on in my 855 TDi and stay on for about 30 seconds or until you put the ignition key in. Is this normal? The driver and passenger front door lights only come on when you get in...and go off as soon as you shut the door. I am concerned that this is putting a strain on my battery...afterall, if ALL the various courtesy lights (door/roof/footwells) come on you have no less than 10 lights on at the same time!! I have switched the front and rear roof lights off to cut it down to 6! Also, i am wondering if the glove box light is on all the time as the fit is not that tight and may not be pushing the light's 'trip' switch in enougth? I have fitted a new heavy duty battery...but am only seeing around 12.35 V after say 2 days of no use! With the engine running, the alternator is showing 14.02 V at the battery posts. Any ideas or help on these problems would be much appreciated lads. Cheers, |

RE: Un-courteous courtesy lights...batty not happy!
Hi, 14.02 is fine for the charging and 12.35 after 2 days is perfectly ok. Remember your car system is 12 volt, it doesnt need to be any more than that.
the light queary you have is normal for an 850. The interior light system has a time delay relay built in to it. When you stop and get out of the car the light stays on for a short while as it does when you unlock the car. It is nothing to worry about. regards. Keith |
