Default S60 2.0t, please share your wisdom

My S60 2.0l turbo is a 53 plate with a Bosch ETM. I have some symptoms of ETM failure although no error codes are logged. Can the Bosch unit suffer the same issue as the earlier one or should I be looking elsewhere.

Just today the symptoms got worse with erratic and low tickover, to the point where unless I rev the engine to about 2k it'll stall at lights etc. Once moving it occasionally stutters and kangaroos making me look like a learner driver.

It's done 110k miles and was recently serviced. Should I be looking at the MAF sensor or vacuum leaks? Any pointers please?

I haven't had the car long but I would doubt it has been cleaned.

Our 03 plate S60 2.0T had the same symptoms at 94k miles. The local independent did the usual checks .... air sensor and air leaks, but no faults found. A new ETM fixed it. The car runs much more smoothly now (we had not realised how rough the engine had become over time).

Just looked, small mirror on a stick, baby torch etc .... Yes it is a Bosch. Can't make out the part code, sorry. But, curiously, it has a picture of a piston/conrod with the number 6 next to it. But the engine is only a 5. It goes OK, so I'm not complaining

I thought it was the earlier ETM's which had the problem but maybe the Bosch ones do as well. Can you remember how much it cost to get your ETM replaced, was it a brand new one?

The replacement one is a Bosch, so I assume the old one was Bosch as well.

It was a new one, total cost around £600, including the diagnostic etc. I have used this garage for a number of years and their prices have been reasonable in the past, but I did not get a competitive quote on this occasion (they had the car on the rig).

They did say that some ETMs are around £100 cheaper than mine (but I don't know which ones).

The ETM component was £330 plus VAT, plus a gasket and some (minor) software costs.

Oh bugger, just my luck. Its only two weeks since I bought this and I haven't done 200 miles yet because I runs like a dog and a rear caliper has seized as well now. I think I'd better let the seller know I'm not happy.
