Default Fuel pump ECU dead?

Afternoon all. Need some thoughts on an issue my Dad is having with his XC70 (215 D5, MY2012 Auto)

He stalled at the side of the A40 the other day with suspected fuel pump issues. Having taken the car to his local Indy and identified a fault code coming from the pump that's located in the tank, they've removed the running gear, dropped the tank and replaced the pump. On refitting, nothing happens. No fuel, no pump running. Nothing. Fault code is still there.

There's a little ECU sitting aside the pump apparently. Do the pumps have to be coded in any way or could the ECU be goosed? Anyone come across this before? All help greatly appreciated as the next move could be putting it on the back of a transporter and taking it to the main stealer...

Car has done around 60k, mostly motorway, very little towing and has FSH.

Volvo recently did a recall on fuel pumps. It concerned cars with saddle type fuel tanks which I imagine all AWD's will have. I would look into that first and see if your dads car is one of those affected.

How recently? I've internetted a few bits and turned up details of one recall but that seems to only cover XC70 from 2001-2005 and was due to a failing O-ring/flange mating joint? Or am I looking at the wrong recall?

Dad, have a look at this:

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=242641

Second page (9th post) has a schematic of the fuel delivery across the saddle tank and details of the pump. Perhaps worth a chat with the garage again, make sure there's fuel where it should be and it can make enough pressure to open the valve.
