Roof rack and roof box XC70
Finally got my XC70 this week. Chuffed to bits with it. We are going on a road holiday in a couple of weeks time. As we have a dog and a wee one, looking at getting a rack and roof box. I looked at the space Design 520 roof box. Looks nice and aerodynamic, however seems a tad pricey! Is there anything the forum can recommend?
Thanks. |

Hi mate,
Your more than welcome to use mine. Not needing it this year as we are heading to Tenerife. I live in Kirkliston N.E of Edinburgh near South Queensferry. Ta, Deano. |

Now that's what this forum is about. What a kind gesture. I used to lend mine out to a colleague until holidays clashed and he bought his own but at least I knew him and had some recourse if anything went wrong. How nice to see trust in the world.

Many thanks for the offer! What type do you have? I will need to get myself a roof rack. Plan on using the rack for my bicycle at some point. Cheers |

Can't remember the name but it was made by Thule for Halfords. It is black in colour and totally watertight. I also have roof bars you can use as well if you want.
I am around all weekend if you want to have a look before you decide if you want to use it or not. Ta, Deano. |

I have a Kamei Delphin 470 with Thule roof bars for my V70. The roof box is a long "thin" design that I bought 11 years ago for my Audi A6 Avant. They come with a 6 year Guarantee and are excellent quality. I have used mine 4 or 5 times every year since I bought it and other than a few dead insects on the front it is as good as new. They are not cheap, about £300 today but with a bit of care will literally last you a lifetime. The box has proved to be totally waterproof, even in horizontal downpours (sidepours) in Snowdonia and can be fitted in 10 minutes at the most. They have strong gas struts front and back and open on the long side. I keep it suspended on ropes and pulleys in my garage roof and just lower it onto the roof bars when I need it. Job done. Mine has a grey upper half and a black lower half, but they also do an all black version. If cost is an issue Kamei do a smaller version called the "husky" for about £190 which is 330 litres instead of 470. The long and thin design is useful in that I can fit the roof box on one side on the roof and a bike carrier next to it.
Cheers, Richard.

OTOH we simply rent one when we need one a couple of times a year - storage space for the box inbetween times is the issue for us.
