I don't know if anyone has tried stopping a diesel engine by blocking the air intake but it's not that easy. I have a narrowboat with a BMC 1.8 diesel that has an electric fuel cutoff. This has been known to fail and the only way I can stop the engine is by undoing the injector supply. That's why I have a spanner on a hook next to the engine.
