Doesn't the H refer to halogen which has a cleaner whiter light then a tungsten which is yellow?
I have wired a small oblong LED spot light below the towbar. (awaits someone quoting C&U which states it should be separately switched as the wattage is too high for a reversing light) |

If it's on a seperate switch it's a working light and not covered by the regs. Being a working light it's use is dependant upon what you need to work by.
Back in the day most road rally cars had a 50w halogen spot rear mounted, seperate switch and it's a working light sir. These days it's led and just about every defender has them. Paul. |

C&U regs for lighting are a mess from my reading of them, whilst it is common practice for tail lights to be 5w and fog and brake lights to be 21w that's not in the regs, approved reversing lights can be any wattage, unapproved ones under 24w. If Marty has a high powered white light on the back I'd rather it was switched by the reverse gear than being independent, at least that way we don't have to get dazzled if we're following him when he forgets to switch it off (guilty of that myself back in the day, fortunately the police officer who followed me from Haverhill to Colchester was a nice chap).
I'm not quite sure in Baxlin's case whether he already has leds or it's a filament 6w, either way I'd be inclined to look for a new led bulb, more light from the same or less watts with less heat. New leds are a lot better than some of the old ones and some old ones are losing their brightness.

It’d already been fitted with LEDs, but I’ve found H21W halogens, which are surprising enough, 21W.
Now fitted these, and we’ll see how it goes.

That’s solved it! While the H21Ws give a light more yellow than the LEDS the PO had fitted, they give a much more useful spread of light generally, and have improved the reversing camera's picture no end.
I was worried initially about the extra heat, but consider the reversing lights are never on for long enough to melt anything.
