Rear shock absorber top mounts
Hi
MOT time, groan Rear bottum shock bushes are clearly shot. No probs, easy job and tenner from Brookhouse. Shock itself still got a bit of life left and not failing test. But, standard pair is 80 quid delivered, so toying with idea of replacing whole things. BUT only depends how tops are mounted. Question - how are the tops fitted to body? Nut and bolt - replace if ceased OR captive nut, - possible ball ache if ceased or sheered, hence the question Just weighing up options Cheers

It's a captive in the chassis rail. Usually will come undone ok.
Check the strengthening panel above the top shock mounting. They're very prone to rusting John |

+ 1 to John on upper mount being a weakness - its usually hidden by underseal where the reinforcing section around/above the mount is welded to the inner wing. My auto 144 looked immaculate underneath - except in that area which had to be welded up for MoT two tests ago, so you aint alone!
