New TG is now like 5th Gear was. The presenters thought they were being hilarious and were laughing a lot, to stony silence from the audience.

I still watch both for the cars. But after the last episode, which I think was the best of the series, I watched episode 1 of GT series 2 again and laughed out loud and enjoyed the cars more.

TV car shows are never going to be just reviews of cars any more. If you want a review, go to You Tube and all the car magazine and other reviews there.

Given aluminium's greater propensity for fatigue-based failures than good ole steel, I wonder if those running high mileage XC60s in future years might have cause for concern? (Accepting they are unlikely to be jumping their vehicles in the manner shown)

I remember before Clarkson got sacked that I thought the show had run its course, it looked tired and predictable. Ironically, Clarkson getting sacked re-invigorated him and his pals for Amazon although that has now also been binned. I saw the first series, fun, but only saw one of the last one and it had returned to formula.

I watched a couple of the Chris Evans version and it was horrible. I saw one of the recent episodes, souping up a tractor, and it was too much of a copy of Top Gear from 5 yrs ago. The scripted banter was painful, banter needs to flow. There was no chemistry, the reason the three old gits work so well together.

For me it has run its course and I will not bother again. If it still makes money for the BBC then they will keep knocking them out, be daft not to.

Although the alfa did finish the course they chose to film the catching up section to be on the bumps not on the flats, based on the film the Volvo looks like it was going much faster over those than the alfa, also remember the Volvo is 400Kg heavier and making bigger jumps!!!

In part one it was also going some and had the horse box on the back. It is just maths, even if they both have the same connectors the Volvo is going to have much more kinetic energy if it is jumping that higher!

Some poor consumers may have bought any one of those cars as " ex demonstrators " ! Can you imagine how you'd feel if you recognised the registration number ?!!

I still have no idea why people encourage the car manufacturers to build these so-called Sports vehicles, as there is no sport they can compete in, apart from the sport of blocking up roads round schools and poisoning people in carparks as there seems to be a problem with them that means their engines can never be shut off, while the occupants (usually far from sporty themselves) consume McDonalds.

They are unstable in a way that cars are not, and who says they are safer (another incorrect argument for driving the treacherous 3/4 of a mile to school, so Tarquin and Lucinda don't get wet), which would you prefer to be hit by, SUV or car?

They are more cramped inside because of all the axles etc, so the "Utility" part is a lie also, my Previa could carry almost double what my friend's ML could.

Conclusion, if we don't want to see them on TV, stop buying them....
I know I will rush out and not buy one as soon as possible.

I really like my 'SUV' XC60 and don't particularly care about others choices of vehicle, but I must take issue with one of your points re safety. It not a question of what you would rather be hit by, more a question of what would you rather be travelling in, a low small car or a bigger higher one. My selfish human nature dictates that I am far more concerned about the occupants of my car than I am about others.

I also love my XC60 & can I just stat I don't take Tarquin or Lucinda to school. Mine spends most of it's time tavelling up & down the motorways in trips of up to 7Hrs at a time.

Why did I choose an SUV - It's comfortable for said journeys, It has bags of room in it for me, any passengers & any luggage. It doesn't do much offroad apart from forest drives (that my previous S60 also did) & Muddy carparks for Airshows & motorsport events. It doesn't sit in the local Maccy D's.

Top gear has never been about cars, it's always been a car based entertainment. At least the old bunch had a chemistry, this lot are just dreary. Mind you, if you're into psuedo nuevo hippy mumbo jumbo you might like it. As for fifth gear, lost its direction when it tried to out top gear top gear.
