V50 Key Error
have a V50 D5, 11 1/2 yrs old only done 120k and I have an error code reading:
KEY ERROR TRY AGAIN. and i can't start the car. The car locks and unlocks fine so a signal is getting to the car but when i insert the key the error message appears with the (i) warning also illuminating. I've changed the battery on both key fobs this morning and makes no difference. |

There can be issues with the receiver around the ignition barrel, it sounds like it's not reading the key.
My friends car had this fail and I'm afraid it was a dealer only fix. I would get the codes read first with VIDA and that will narrow the fault down. Terry. |

Hi
Normally the ignition switch, no coding required just a replacement. On mine, i changed the ignition key unit. there have been loads of problems and i think volvo are on the 3rd or 4th version of the unit. A sharp bang on the dash next to the key switch sorted mine temporarily. Iain |

Yeah, it’s a known with V50 and S40. I had it with my V50, I got the dealer to replace the ignition switch for me.
