HELP! Got a 1989 740 turbo estate. Love it! But there's a problem with the dashboard lights. The lights in the instrument cluster are working as are the lights in the transmission tunnel, eg, gear selector, elec window swithes etc, but the other panel (the one with the heater, front and rear fogs) is pitch black! I've looked for a fuse which operates this panel but no luck. Any suggestions? Turning the heater on or off is a nightmare in the dark! Many thanks to anyone who can suggest anything.

Unfortunately it's the Ol' Dashboard out Jobbie again!! I had this as well, and unfortunately you've to remove everything in its path to get at that panel. The Chrome strip prises off revealing I think, three screws remove them and there you should have it access to the heater panel:-)It's Wheatsheaf bulbs that replace them, available from any motor factors!!

Good Luck.

Thanks for that. I'll put a spare week to one side for it. Sounds like a lovely job!

It's dead easy, I did it in two minutes once in the dark. You simply remove the plastic around the heater control unit and down to the steering column. Unscrew the four screws holding the HCU and the light buld holder will be revealed. You will also see the light bulb holder for the lights on the switches. I am not sure what the chrome strip is??

Thanks George. You're right - it was easy! All the bulbs had gone on the side with the heater unit and so had the other one by the light switch. At least I can see what I'm turning off, or on!
