Default Wiring in a Geodesy

Hi All

I am trying to wire in my Geodesy unit (accident black spot warning device ;-) ) and I need a permenant ground wire and a power wire.

I have pulled my head unit out of the dash and can see a red wire and a black wire ( lots of others) going into the head unit. Can I splice into these to get power for the Geodesy?

The manual says 'the Geodesy uses very little power and is non- polar i.e. it does not matter which wire goes to positive and which goes to negative'. Does this mean the fuse for the head unit will be OK for both or should I upgrade it?

This seems to be the easiest option, does any one else have any other suggestions?

Thanks

Is it not possible to plug it into the fag lighter - or are you looking for a neater installation?

Hi Mike

Yes you are correct, you get two 'power clips' one with a cigi lighter on the end and the other for hard wiring.

I am looking for a neater installation without wires dangling. :-)

Andy,

I too use the Geodesy device, although rarely, so I simply use the lighter socket and blu-tack it to the dash when necessary. If you were to hard wire the power clip without the plug on the end, the easiest DIY method is to simply wire it to the connections on the rear of your lighter socket. I understand the unit is not polarity sensitive so it doesn't matter which way round you connect it's wires. As it's wires are very thin and the lighter's wiring is fused for 15A, I'd add a 1A fuse to your connections just in case a short were ever to occur on the Geodesy's wires.
