Default V60 future rot problems? Preventative maintenance...

Having just removed the inner nearside wheel arch liner, I found the inside of the wing to be crammed with wet muck where it joins the plastic sill skirt. There is a foam type fitted insert to stop any crud getting further inside the wing and sill but even that had mud behind it.
Left to sit there, it will surely lead to rot in the future but saying that, my car is over 8 years old and there was no sign of any.
It is all now cleared out and I applied a large amount of polish to help protect it.
Next weekend I will remove the liner on the other side and do the same and also check any holding areas on the rears.
If you plan on keeping your car for years it may be worth a couple of hours of your time removing it.
Although with the slow demise of diesels, I may just be wasting my time!

I don't think it is a waste of time if you are planning to keep the car going for as long as you can.
My old S60 D5 which I sold in 2013 is a 2005MY car. Looking on the MOT checker it has passed the latest MOT with 218,000+ miles on the clock and still with only one advisory in the whole history - 2007 when I left the satnav stuck to the windscreen.
My current 2011 S60 D3 will run until it is legislated off the road. That engine will never wear out with regular maintenance, it only revs to 3,500rpm

I agree 100% with what you say, the only things that will curtail the length of time I own it will be the political agenda or reliability issues.
The other 3 arches will receive the same treatment this weekend and any other crud traps I can find.
