I think that the reference above is for a XC90 fault, not a XC60

My XC60 D5 also show an over the limit oil level (even though the actual oil level is fine).

After reading this thread I checked the engine oil level and found some anomalies. Initially the instrument gauge showed over-full. The dipstick showed a normal level.
Checked the instrument level again after driving the car and it showed a normal full level, in other words, no problem in my car. I appreciate the posts earlier in the thread that enlightened us about using the instrument level and the dipstick. The Owner's Manual provides no help at all, or at least, none that I could find. The photo of the engine compartment in my Manual shows a dipstick at the very top of the engine, nothing at all like the reality. |

Well.. its about 2 weeks after the dealer took out 1000ml and refilled 900ml and the engine oil service required message is back. Checked both e-dipstick = 1 bar over max and the short plastic dipstick which has oil above the XXXXX etchings. Called up the dealer and he says he'll get back to me. *sigh* now wondering if I should have got the 3.2 or the T6.. *sigh*

Update. Took the car to the dealer yesterday. They found the oil level to be ok. Said that the sensor was faulty so booked it in for a replacement next week. But they changed my oil for me anyway.. Fingers crossed its a dodgy electrical sensor!

Oil level mistery solved... (almost)

Thanks for the heads up.
Obviously it deserves a more serious approach than the casual brush-off that I received from our Volvo service department. I had to insist that I would not drive the car with the oil level warning showing. For the time being all that we can do is check the engine oil level and complain if it is elevated.
