V70 - engine keeps cutting out....HELP!!!!
I have a V70, 2.4, petrol, 2002, 100,000 miles.
It doesnt matter weather it is warm or cold, my car seems to cut out when the engine revs are quite low, mostly happening when coming up to junctions, slowing down etc. It actually happened 4 times today in a time of about 20 - 30 seconds, one time being on a roundabout which was worring. After a certain time it sorts its self out and runs a dream. I was just wondering what it is that might be wrong.......any comments would be great thanks. |

Get the fault codes read that will more than likely tell you exactly what has failed.

Cleaning the throttle body would be a good first move.

Yes get throttle cleaned asap. I have 03 V70 2.4SE same problem and no fault codes, cleaning throttle sorted it. I did it myself using Wynns Carb & throttle cleaner aerosol cost £6. Disconnected battery first and took throttle body off... say 15 mins max!
I cannot believe its the same car, response is so much better and no cut-outs. |

I had a very similar cut out fault to the one you describe. Problem was a failing injector pump which was correctly diagnosed bythe fault codes.
However mine's a D5 which will have a much higher pump outlet pressure I expect than a petrol engine (which is probably just pressurised by the pump used to draw fuel from the tank) Nevertheless if the cheap and easy options fail to cure the problem you should be able to identify any potential problem relating to faulty fuel delivery pressure via the diagnostics. Rectifying the problem can be low cost if you can find a source of the requisite 2nd hand bits and then fit themyouself. I solved my cut out problem for £80 and 2 hrs of my life as opposed to £1780 from Volvo. |

I'd start by cleaning the throttle body as mentioned, which is simple on the non turbo engine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGxVoGbDK1I
