Pretty much the same apart from the fact that they are different

The filter for use with AQS has the charcoal filter as well as the paper filter.
The charcoal filter helps to remove unwanted odours.

The filter for use with non AQS systems is just the paper filter. Unwanted odours are not blocked.

So nearly the same, but quite a bit different.

You are correct but I meant pretty much the same cost.

Think I paid less than £10 for the last one from Euro Car Parts, mine has the (failed) AQS system, was Mahle from memory.

Mike
ECP did 3, one at c£15 that was for non-AQS and 2 for AQS at c£32-£40.

The one in the car was the wrong one and in the wrong slot... and looked pretty old. The new one fits better and im sure does the same job.

There does not seem to be any kicking around for £15 for cars with AQS.

The cabin air filter should be replaced annually, so a very dirty filter is a sign of poor preventative regular maintenance.

Thus it would be a wise idea to be looking at all other regular maintenance items and check whether they might also have been missed....

While this is the case it rarely forms part of a "normal" service. Generally you have to ask for it to be done (or do it yourself).

Pretty much every car I have had recently has needed a cabin filter replacement as its never been done despite the car having a full service history, its just not considered as part of the service.

Its part of the Volvo service schedule, and I have never not had it done when dealer serviced, defo changed, how do I know .... I'm sad, and I check and write dates on them .... been caught that way before.

This is why I do most of my servicing myself, I may lose the FSH but I gain the knowledge that the job has been done right and with the right parts.

Dating the part is a good idea though... If I ever get a car good enough to warrant a dealer service I may consider doing that!

Also possibly of note, replacing the filter with the "proper" one and not the cheap one has removed the smell from the car, could have been linked to the old filter but smells loads better so cant complain.
