Default Replacement Key/Fob

Looking for some advice folks.

I bought a 2004 v50 which came with only one key/fob. This was OK to begin with but is causing some problems now re flexibility and I'm worried about impact of losing the one and only key!

I'm sure this has been asked a million times (I had a quick search but didn't find a key thread) but is there an alternative to paying the £200+ that the local dealer is quoting e.g. if I buy a blank on eBay will they code it?

Thanks

Chris

a genuine new key is about £70 coding should take 18 minutes of labour. That is reasonable

If you buy a brand new one from anywhere it MUST come with the clear package and white sticker with the coding numbers or it will be useless to anyone ...

But yes it is essential to have 2 working keys with a car these days , preferably with one hidden in the car somewhere if you get stranded somewhere ..

I too am looking for somewhere to get a spare key 'made'.

Volvo Doncaster Quote - £175 + VAT (As of 8/8/2011)

Not reasonable IMO...

That is the price reasonable or not , you cant do much about it ... except find a dealer with a lower labour rate ..

Volvo in Exeter (Kastner) charged me £60 for the fob and £25 for the software. This was for the fob only and not the key though.

Hi,

Anyone had recent experience of obtaining duplicate fobs??

Just bought a V50, 2005, 2.0 Diesel, only have one key, worried about losing this so need another.

Thanks in advance

Hi Buddy

Where in Norwich did you get a new key replacement done.
Went to Volvo Holdens and they quoted £169.30.

I think I can trump all of you to be honest, not an accolade I want to carry but it's a fact of life.

Greers Volvo in Antrim Northern Ireland
