Help needed with 1540 & 1600 fault codes...
HI every one...
Having a bad time with the local Volvo dealership. 2007 XC90 D5 Auto. Car went for a service.. reported as needing a swirl thingy (sorry). Replaced but hasn't run properly since. I'm being told it needs a new turbo... Codes are 1540 & 1600 It's been with the garage 2 months now, and I've only received the codes this morning. I don't want to leave it with them any longer... When a garage tells me "it may fix" the problem but "we can't guarantee it" along with a £2k estimate I tend to run... So, is there anyone in the North East that is willing to exchange some beer tokens for some time with a fault code reader and help me find the fault? Is it the turbo, or is there the possibility that it has the sticky vanes that is mentioned in other threads? I don't know which is why I'm here... Help me, Help me... I'm going insane....................... Thanks for your time and help.. |

Sorry to hear of your strife. but why are you taking a 12 year old car to a main dealer? Better to find a specialist indie with a good rep. Secondly sticky vanes does usually mean a new turbo, or at least a recon (£1k). cleaning unlikely to fix (though worth a try)
Don't know those codes but I know that turbo pressure issues throw up a lot of not very helpful codes that must be interpreted by someone with deep marque experience - main dealers do tend to be a bit part swap happy. good luck |

Hi, I am in agreement wil last post
You need a good indie to check the car out, not a main dealer. You already have an example of throwing new parts at a poorly diagnosed problem. Should if eventually be the turbo, why not buy a reconditioned one with a warranty? You can see these on eBay. For such parts I personally would never advocate a new replacement (I have my03)., Even if I could afford it. So get the problem looked at by a reputed local indie. Hope this helps. Good luck, John l |

Cheers Guys... I know what you're saying, but wasn't me that took it to the main dealer.... I've inherited the problem and trying to sort it best I can.
Indie is where I'd have gone to start with, but hey ho... Just checking to see what the most likely problem it could be, before I look to have it recovered... Then possibly have someone from on here with a code reader take a look |

Just come across your post mate, where abouts are you based? I've recently picked my first Volvo up, well I say recently was 6 months ago now, just before Christmas picked up a XC90 and have a Vida/dice setup if your anywhere local, (I'm not 100% on how to use everything on it yet as only had a small play with it myself haha).
Should mention I'm Skegness way, more east than north east but if I can help I shall. Ahh just seen your from Darlington bit far away that one least you know if your ever this way and need a hand I'm about with the Vida/dice good luck with the issues.
