xc90 auto will not engage into gear - Page 3

Not sure about the Volvo but when my wife's Voyager had a gearbox leak I took it out and took it to a local automatic specialist. Cost me £750 for a replacement pump and torque converter. E then told me he could have replaced the box with a reconditioned one for £1200, that's him replacing it in the car and me keeping my hands clean! After the hassle with that piece of ****e I wish I had done that. I appreciate that you already have it out though, but look into what tools are required to strip the box. Some autos require specialist pullers, some don't. Good luck.

You can purchase the pump separately but you will need to go through a transmission specialist who will stock them. Pumps are around 120 notes

Stripped again!! To be honest I'm disappointed I never found grated teeth!!! The teeth all look fine. I've taken a photo to prove it!! Hopefully will load.
I am going to take it to a gear box shop just to check it, they will know better than me

As I've said before I'm still stumped lol what is the procedure to fill auto box from dry? Maybe just clutching at straws!! But would this have anything to do with it?

Seems to look okay, as you say though take the gearbox and torque converter to someone who is experienced with them.

With regard to the fill, make sure you fully drain the TC which can involve tipping it and tilting it, and then just drop in 7 litres through the dipstick hole. A small investment in the right size plastic tube and a funnel will pay dividends.

Hi did you ever get to the bottom of this problem, I have a 2005 xc90 2.4 d5 auto we put a replacement engine in and for about a week it drove beautifully and then one morning i started it, put it into drive and it stalled which was first sign of a problem but I started it back up and it was fine. I then drove about a mile down the road and lost all drive just revved up, got the car back home and found when left for a period of time and started it would have drive but only for about 10 seconds and then nothing, now that doesnt even happen now there is no drive at all from start up no warning message and no codes. I have now removed engine and box in the hope I would find something but no sign of anything obvious. Please in need of help.

That is a symptom of low gearbox oil level . It was correct of course . ?

Yes oil level was absolutely fine.
