Default Pin refuses to move.

1992 940.
I started this job with some trepidation, expecting the grub screw to refuse to loosen. It wound out without any bother. For the record the socket head is hex 4.
The pin is refusing to budge and access is rather difficult. I don’t want to have to drop the prop shaft if I can avoid it. I’ve doused it with releasing fluid and will leave it overnight.
Question: Where does the O ring fit relative to the bushes?
The only diagram that I have been able to find appears to show it on the right hand side of the right hand bush between the forks of the selector rod.

Default That O ring. Subject of my urgent thread.

I’ve managed to remove the pin and the old nylon bushes but there is no trace of any O ring.
The OP’s diagram appears to show the O ring ( no.8 ) fitted over the collar of the left side nylon bushing.
The Volvo Parts Web Store appears to show it ( no. 20 ) fitted over the right side bushing.
If it is indeed supposed to fit over one of the bushings, I suppose that it doesn’t matter which one and the difference in the diagrams may simply be that one is American and the other is not.
Opinions appreciated.

Default Thanks to baggy798.

He replied to my urgent post stating that there was no trace of any O ring when he did his but he placed the new one on the passenger side bush as per the diagram he posted, so I have done the same.
Grub screw replaced with a little thread lock as jimsiss suggested.
Thanks again.

What gearbox? sounds like you might have an M47, M90 is different gear stick. Picture looks like M90.

I did the white bushes in my 360, using 240 parts (same PN), didn't come across an o-ring.

I’ve never been quite sure which gearbox is fitted but suspect M47. Likewise the back axle as I cannot find the identification label.
However, having researched the bushes etc. as much as possible I attended my main dealer to order the required parts. I had made a note of the part numbers but didn’t tell the parts guy. Using my car VIN he came back with the same part numbers which included an O ring. I suppose that the O ring creates a slight amount of pressure on the bush towards the gear-lever.

Default O-ring

When I replaced the bushes on my M90 I did not find an O-ring either, although a new one came with the replacement set. I guess the ring had just disappeared somewhere in the 20 years of shifting due to wear.
To be honest, I forgot to install the new ring but cannot imagine in what way this could be crucial. It seems to me that the rubber will quickly wear out anyway and is better replaced by a steel washer instead, should you absolutely want to fit it.
OS or NS will not make any difference. Theoretically the lever will move slightly in the opposite direction, but I doubt if the difference is noticable.

I would suggest a copper or aluminium washer instead of steel Rob for the simple reason that both are softer and will be sacrificial in terms of wear. Much easier to replace a copper or aluminium washer than a major part of the linkage due to wear.
