Default T5-Turbo

Hi
I'm having problems with the turbo on my car, it is leaking some oil..
The turbo is spinning up and gives good power, and the car does not seem to be smoking. But when I did my service I saw that there was oil dripping from it.
The car has been using a some oil. I think since last service I topped up about 2 litres. When I drive carefully and dont use the turbo it is not using much oil either.
I was told that I don't have to do anything about it till it starts smoking, witch is great as my account is very low now..

I was wondering about a couple of things. I'm very low on cash at the moment and I don't think turbo is something I should try to fix myself. Any recommendations for a place that can fix it at a reasonable cost?
I'm also wondering what the worst case scenario is? I'm obviously not going to try to drive the turbo to pieces.. But what happens if it goes? Will I be able to keep driving the car for a bit? Just with less power or will I have to get a new turbo before I drive it again?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

GT

Possibly the turbo oil seal is on the way out. If it's the same as the 850 there is are two 5mm hex bolts to remove along with a 10mm bracket then remove from the turbo and sump

Parts will cost you less than £10 from volvo main agents or less from other places job itself takes less than an hour to fix

If your V70 isn't the same as the 850 totally disregard the above but I would guess its going to be very similar

Should probably include that the return seal is done, that the is dripping from the turbo itself. There was also some oil in the connection on the intercooler pipe that goes over the engine.

Noone had their turbo repaired somewhere and want to share their experience? I was also wondering how I can find out what turbo is on the car?

There are several different turbochargers fitted see the attached then locate which model you have. Have you replaced the copper washers around the oil pipes on the turbocharger ? just because you've done one seal it still could be one of the others again they only cost pennies from Volvo.

Thanks, that might be an idea, to have a look at the seals. But would it be dripping oil from it if nothing is wrong inside it? I would have thought that if it is oil inside trying to get out there is something wrong with the turbo? Do you know anyone that would do a service like taking your turbo out and refurbing and putting back again? It seems garages sends them off to turbo specialists?

Nope, there will be a whole lot of smoke and it will be goosed until you get a new turbo. You wont be able to drive it at all. (happend to me in a SAAB)

Your local Volvo agent may offer the service as should a good volvo specialist but most will simply send the turbo off for replacement as its a whole load quicker just to unbolt your dead one and bolt on a nice shiney good one

You can buy repair kits off Ebay how good they are no idea.

Hi, thanks, was one of the things I wondered about.. Planning a big trip through Europe this summer so I guess I have to sort it before then..

My local Volvo specialist can take it off and send to a turbo specialist for refurb. I'm sure they will do a great job and use a good turbo company, the problem is cost.. It would be around £600 including labour. I also have insurance coming in around £8-900 (strangely it is going up..) next week and work is low at the moment, and probably will be low for a while. So I cant afford that.

I was hoping that if anyone here has experience with rebuild kits they could advice me if it is something to attempt myself.
Or maybe someone could recommend a good place to do the work, that is not going to cost as much? (I'm in London).
Essex turbos quoted £400 for a refurbished exchange, if I take it out myself. That is still quite a bit of money and I was hoping to find a cheaper place.

Thanks!
