Volvo 850 t5-r model cars
Hello all,
My name is Alex, and I own a small model car business in Hinckley, Leicestershire. We have a good number of AUTOart 850 T5-R models in stock, and are giving a discount to forum members. There is the saloon and the estate available. They are £51.00 each, with applicable postage of £5.52 for one car, or upto 6 for £8.39. The eBay listings are here for Saloon and Estate The order form for the forum discount is http://www.volvoforum.theautoartcollection.co.uk/ |

There are 2 things that worry me a LOT about the purchase page ...
No HTTPS and it looks like card details are sent in plain text. Infact, the website breaks if you try and use https. They look like nice models though, how big are they? Its hard to tell from the photos. I'm sure they'll fly off the shelves at that price!! Last edited by JamesV70R; Nov 28th, 2012 at 12:18. |

people are always advised NEVER to send card details by non-secure means such as this . Dont risk it .
However i dont think there is anything fraudulent going on here , why cant we just add our forum name to the e-bay purchase method for the discount ? I want one , but am not prepared to send card details on a non https web page like that ... why cant the advertiser use pay-pal ?

If we're putting together a forum buy for these, I'll jump in too (will steer away from sending card details as advised).
What's the plan? (suppose we need to await response from post originator)

Member only joined in Nov 2012 with one post . I think the mods should clarify if genuine but i still would not give card details as requested. Last edited by volvo145; Nov 28th, 2012 at 22:31. |

Hi,
Thanks for your replies. I cleared this with Admin before posting and provided full VAT and business registration details. You will see that under the username is 'Trader' I fully understand that you may not wish to provide card details using our form, it is just a form, and not the actual processor so https:// won't work as the web page is just a page. We are allowed to use online and paper based forms under our credit card processing license, but I certainly don't blame people for being cautious in this day and age. You are more than welcome to pay by PayPal, sales@autoartcollection.co.uk. Alternatively just fill the card details on the form with '000's and we can raise a PayPal invoice to the email address you give on the form. As above, they are 1:18th of the real car, so approx 25cm. The reason we can't give a discount on eBay is the fees associated with sale, it is roughly 9% of the sale price on each item we sell. Credit cards is slightly cheaper than PayPal also, but due to the concerns raised above we will happily accept PayPal for Forum orders. Any further help required, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for taking the time to reply! The main issue with the data entry method is that its not secure in any way and you're transmitting full credit/debit card details in plain text to an email address - I would suggest dropping the entry method for card details from that page altogether, and have a "Pay by Paypal" button which you can generate from inside your Paypal account. Even if people don't have a paypal account its a lot more secure for both them and you as they can pay as a "guest" entering their address details and card details into Paypal who will do the processing for you, and you don't have the hassle of having to keep their card details secure. People with Paypal accounts have only got to enter their password and click once to pay you. Just my 2p. James Last edited by JamesV70R; Nov 29th, 2012 at 09:58. |

I can confirm we were approached by this company to offer these items and they have supplied all their business details.
