Hi Grant,
Well it does seem to be a little hit and miss with these VIDA units. I've had mine for a good length of time now and have not had a single issue (touch wood). I personally got mine from EBay and it came from China but I did ensure I bought one from someone who had good feedback. However good feedback for buying doesn't help you 12/18 months later. I've never been stung with customs costs when getting anything from China but if I buy anything from USA I always seem to be hit with extra costs. It appears hard to recommend a certain seller to get a guaranteed 'good one' so I'm afraid it is all a bit of a gamble. Clan has said in the past you can buy one over the parts counter with the part number but of course this going to cost a fair bit more than one from EBay. It may however last a bit longer but you could probably buy a couple of China ones. Choices choices??? |

I'm buying one from a ebay seller based in Slough tomorrow (payday). £149.90 for a clone unit with the 2012 software.

Oh really? I've got an old Dell e5400 that work was throwing out. Only has 2GB Ram, Windows XP etc. Do you know which .ini file I need to change? I can do that tonight in prep for getting the Dice tomorrow.

I got the information on this Forum somewhere but here are the instructions copied into Word:
VIDA – How to alter the RAM The file that needs to be edited is: {what your install folder is called} = C:\Vida 2012A or D:\Vida etc... {what your install folder is called}\Install\DVD\Vida_dvdheader\Compinfo.ini (This where you will find the file.) Your best to move the install from the DVD to a folder on your HDD, once you edit the file of course the changes need to be saved and you won't be able to save them changes back to the DVD again (unless it is a DVD RW). Right click on Compinfo.ini and click on edit, near the bottom of the file there is a header called [RAM] which will have a value of 2000 or 2048, change this value to 1000 (I changed mine to 1500) or even 512 if you have less than 1Gb ram. Save the changes and exit the file then run the install, all should now be fine. One problem I had was my VIDA 2012A came on a dual layer DVD which my old laptop's single layer DVD drive would not read so I transferred the VIDA programme onto a 16Gb memory stick, I then changed the ".ini" file as above and then plugged the memory stick into the USB port and installed it from there - voila it worked. Lastly you will probably find it will need Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 to work, but if yours is an ex-work laptop it will probably have that anyway. Good luck, Grant

Well, I have given up the job of trying to fix my busted old dice.
I'll pass on the suggestion of going to China to buy a new one but found this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/latest-ver...ht_5301wt_1118 Only place I have found where the feedback is 100%, ( ok not all DICE) and not read of any issues with unit not working, needing flashing or other "computer things" I'm not confident about sorting I hv asked the question about the colour of the LED's as I have seen threads on sites that lead me to believe they may be less sound that the multicoloured LED's Cheers Bob |
