Hi,

I am looking to buy an appropriate period style radio to replace the current 1990’s radio cassette In my 1968 P1800 S .

David, when you say period 'style' radio, are you thinking of a radio with modern features that just looks like a 1960/70s instrument, or an actual period radio? Am I right in thinking that the P1800 used a standard 7"X2" slot, or one specific to the car?

Regards, John.

Hi John,

I would prefer an original from the 60/70s in working order if possible,

The current radio is spindle mounted with an opening in the dash of 95 x 43 mm,with a 20 mm round hole either side.

Regards

David

A stereo version of the Blaupunkt Frankfurt would be nice. Expensive, but available.

The volvo specific radios for the p1800 and Amazon were Bendix AM units. These would obviously be useless today however they could be retrofitted with Bluetooth units. I had one of these which I added an audio input to play music from an mp3 player.

Hi JP and Derek,

Thank you for your recommendations,

Having just viewed some images on line, both radios would be ideal.

Kind regards

I'd echo getting a period correct radio converted for bluetooth. A chap called Chris Oldfield (advertises on Facebook) converted my Motorola 125X which is the original radio (but was not dealer fitted). Wasn't very expensive to do. Beware that not all period correct radio's will fit as the wiper linkage obstructs the bigger/deeper units - so if you don't fit Bendix make sure what you buy has similar dimensions.
