Hi,

i've got an 850 GLT T5 Auto (P Reg) and a few days ago the ABS and the TRACS warning lights started coming on intermittently on my dashboard. i've taken it to my 'local' Volvo dealership (4 hr round trip!) and they've checked it through and they can't find any fault.

i seem to remember yonks ago reading a post about this on the forums and i'm sure it's a commom fault on 850's and there's a very simple cure. Can anyone remember what's causing it and how i can cure it please?

Thanks in advance,

Elaine

Not sure about the quick fix, but about a year ago I had the same problem and the pump had failed. Volvo quoted me £760 for pump. I got pump recon for £250. On the early 850 the ECU and pump can be seperated. Where as on the newer versions you have to buy full unit. Have you pulled the error codes? Could just be a sensor that needs cleaning?

Thanks Dan,

i've had everything checked and they just can't find a problem. It's not throwing up any error codes, it's just the warning lights flick on for a short while and then go off again.

She's back in the garage on Wednesday to have the centre seat belt replaced from when i had to cut it the other week to get the seat back up so i'll ask them to check the sensors while she's in.

These are the typical symptoms of ABS ecu failure.

The usual fault code indicating this is, Right rear sensor fault.

You can get them repaired.

Try these links:

If you are a club member you can buy new from Nordic at about the same cost as a repaired unit.

Thanks Chris. i always like to be armed with a little info when i visit a garage otherwise they treat me like a brainless bimbo! Volvo have checked it all out twice so far and can't come up with an answer, that's why i thought i'd ask on here 'cos there's usually a helpful soul around who's had the same problem :)

Fingers crossed it's something simple and cheap to fix, she's up for sale at the mo and 99% isn't good enough for me.

Just a thought. There is a common problem with ignition switches which has been covered by this forum before, and on Bay13.
Cheaper option than the ECU!!
