I really would do it yourself. It's a 30 minute job, and might save you a bob or two.

Have done this this morning on my 2003 v70, currently on 160k and not been cleaned out in the 3 1/2 years I have owned it.Had a lovely oily coating of soot throughout the mixer pipe, all cleaned and dried out, onboard mpg gone from 40mpg to 50mpg around town.....30 minutes well spent and highly recommended as soooooo easy to do, and feels a little smoother on tickover too.......

I cleaned the gum'n'soot out of my EGR mixer plenum and throttle body of my 185bhp D5 the other week and have noticed much smoother running. One thing; I've noticed the inside of my tailpipe is completely free of soot now and really clean.

Is that a coincidence?!

I second this one. Is Volvo using a real gasket or the chemical crap on the inlet manifold?

Yes...I did it. It really wasn't bad at all in there. The seal is made with Volvo's special pink gunk. Mine currently hasn't sealed completely - I need to get around to having another crack at it!

Given the above, and that removal necessitates HP fuel line removal (which in itself carries risks...and needs non-standard tools), I would suggest you don't bother!

cheers

James

As far as I can see the only tools needed are a couple of Torx bits and a wrench or two for the fuel lines.
What kind of special tools do you mean

You'll need crows-foot sockets for the fuel lines. You might get them undone with a spanner (but quite possibly not - they're done up to "FT"), but they need torquing and angle tightening back down if they're not going to leak - or at least you're leaving that to luck.

cheers

Feel free to have a look, but it's a fair bit of work, and I was firmly disappointed by the lack of mess I found inside

cheers

James
