Smile 1999 S40 1.8 component Identification time forummers

Hi forummers

I want to identify a component on my S40, it is a 1999 1.8 petrol with the B4184S2 engine. The component I am refering to is some sort of camshaft position sensor or variable valve timing solenoid? It has AISIN VOLVO JAPAN marked on it and is on the left hand side of the engine top and sits next to the toothed belt pulleys. Does anybody know the Volvo part number and correct title? as I wish to contact the vendor to let him know the problems I am having with the car since I brought it last Saturday

Thankfully the car is now with Paul Wenlock at his indy workshop on the A41 in Shropshire, where hopefully he will put the car right and I have total faith in him. He tells me that the pulley(vernier timing pulley ??) next to this unit has gone and it is a fairly large cash outlay.

Thanks in advance for any replies

regards

Talking update.............

Got a call from Paul at Volvo Shropshire yesterday to say the car was ready !! I only dropped it off on Thursday after noon - when he told me me he was very busy and would fit it in when he could - I expected a week at least. He sourced a replacement VVT pulley and components and had the job completed for me by Saturday morning, and all at a cost of £152.75 ! the price alone of the pulley from Volvo main stealers. The car is running beautifully now and I will of course go back to Paul with any work on my S40 in the future. If you live local to his indy workshop I would highly recommend that you do also.

regards
