Hello

Does any one have experience in tuning this model of Volvo.
I'd like to hear about your experiences and the type of equipment or techniques used to improve performance.

Thanks
Jon

Same as any engine really, the basics of tuning are, make the engine breathe in and out better. That is performance air filters and exhausts.
Then make the thing use more fuel/air mixture to achieve more power output.
Tuning modules/chips/upgrades etc..
All depends how serious you are about it and how much you wanna throw at it.
Always remember, if you want to make it go faster, you gotta make it stop better too!
Good luck with the mods and keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm asking because I dont realy know much about engines.
Also there is a lot of advise out there and much of it contradicts.

I'm looking for the easier things to do to start off with for two reasons.

1 the basic things should be first anyway no point putting the cart before the horse.
2 basic things are easier to do

In terms of money I'm not going to go too far or I might as well just get a more powerful car so cost benefit is key.

What do you think of additives things in the fuel tank and to clean out the air intake I'd probably start there what are the cost benefits

The most tempting quick fix must be the computer that sits in the engine compartment and introduces more fuel.

Do you use one and what type is it. I understand there is a lot out there and some of it might be substandard and over stress the engine.

In terms of getting more air in I understand messing with the Turbo can be problematic and intercoloers are expensive to fit.

I have read something about bypassing or removing the pathway that reintroduces exhaust gas to be reburned. Is that easy to do and cheap will it effect the MOT.

What do you think of the diesel bob web site.

Your opinions would be valued

Jon

I'm seriously thinking about tuning my 2004 S40 1.9 D 115bhp with an ECU Upgrade from Rica tuning. Will take it up to 143 bhp, with more torque too! Just the outlay of £470 that is making me put on the brakes. But i Think it will be well worth it as it just updates the ECU, and there is no chip required!

I've driven a rica chipped s40 diesel and was really impressed with how it drove, it seemed to drive so much better and seemed alot more happy to rev,

It also went like stink for a diesel

If you're looking at getting it chipped Upsolute offer upgrades on Volvos for £270.00.
I looked recently for my S40 2.0T but I dont know about the diesel engine.

The rep for the UK is Simon Coe I've got his number, PM me if you want it.

Pretty much as with all tuning options, you have a choice of tuners for your car and below are only some of them:

Upsolute
Superchips
Rica
Dieseltuning (http://dieseltuning.uk.com/volvo.html)
"Tunit" (http://www.tunit.co.uk)

The first three on the list are probably the most popular of the bunch.

Is it worth putting an ITG air filter in the car as well as an Rica ECU Upgrade?
