You can drive without an MOT if you are booked in for one. you could book it in at a Quick Fit branch in Blackpool and one in Stockport later in the day, then just don't turn up. TEE HEE

Had my unit fixed by BBA Reman, at a cost of £500, plus £130 to have it removed and put back. So still expensive, but not £1500. So far so good, let's hope it stays fixed. Thanks Clan.

Yes that sounds expensive for a repair , but what exactly did they do for your money , was there more than one fault ??

This is all I've managed to get from them:

"Fault confirmed: Pump Motor Fault
Repair: We repaired the motor, replaced the brushes and cleaned the commutator
Final Test: Pass"

I'm guessing that by "brushes", they mean "bushes".

He means brushes as in an electric motor , If the fault code suggested a pump motor fault you could have easily have swapped the pump from a second hand ABS unit . easy to say with hindsight of course . but £500 for that work is extortionate considering they didnt even fit a new motor ! It probably took the 30 minutes to do . If it was a back street outfit i would have said they hit it with a hammer charged you £500 and it ran fine ever since ...

Interesting. I agree that it was extortionate. When I contacted them they said it would be between £150 & £200. So £500 was certainly a shock, but I'm trying to see it as less than £1500 that I would've had to pay for having a new unit fitted. To be honest, I didn't feel like I had very much choice about anything. I'm not very experienced with car mechanical and auto electrics, but I'm willing, just never had the time or opportunity to learn. It's a real pity, as I would've had more confidence going into this experience. I'm certainly glad of this board and it's contributors.

I'm happy to have my car sorted, but not filled with confidence, and dreading the next time I see "1 New Message" on my driver's display.

And now, less than 12 months after my repair done by BBA Reman, the same fault code has come up again!

My next MOT is only in December, so at least I have a few months to get it sorted. I'm feeling very disappointed by this latest development, because I feel like the best option is to get something else and get rid of this one.

It's a lovely car, a very rare model because it has a lot of extras, like heated and cooled seats (both front), and both front are electrical too. It also has the 4C dynamic chassis, and bluetooth telephone, retracting mirrors and RTI Satnav (which I've bought a 2013 update for). Finally, it's an SE Sport model, so it's got 18 inch Venator rims. Finally, I've put an Alpine EZI Dab into it as well, for DAB radio and Ipod control. I imagine it'll be quite expensive to get something else with all these extras.

Thanks Model Flyer. I contacted the independent Volvo specialist that carried out the work (including sending the ABS module to BBA reman), and they guarantee their work for 12 months. Wouldn't you know it, it's just over a year since they did the job, so no chance of getting them to repair it under guarantee, BUT, they said that BBA offer a lifetime guarantee on their repairs, subject to the component not having been tampered with. So I'll take the car back and have the fault codes read again (about £30 - £40), and hopefully it's not a different fault this time. As I understand it, if it's the ABS module (ABS pump attached), then it should be under warranty of BBA's repairs, hopefully.
