36,000 Service

I've just been told by my main dealer that the above service will cost £360.
This seems a lot of money for plugs oil and filters!
I'm tempted to try a non Volvo garage but there are some warranty issues I need looking at.

1 Link rods in the front causing a clunking noise over bumps?

2 Clunking noise from rear nearside over bumps.

Should I just book it in for the warranty issues and try and get it serviced by somebody who specialises in Volvos.

Would this be a problem or invalidate the warranty?

Well yes it is alot of money, but unfortunately that's what owning a Volvo is all about. We love the cars , but you have to pay fairly hefty service costs.
If you want cheaper motoring than don't own a luxury brand.

If the car's out of warrenty, then I'd consider a good specialist. In theory though, even if the car is still under warrenty, any competant garage can service without invalidation, providing they work to Volvo schedule and use Volvo parts.

That said, shop around and supply your own oil. Dealers don't all charge the same and you can save at least £30 or so by providing your own oil.

I saved £60 by doing this on a 24k service on my V50.

as 7050 correctly states, as long as genuine volvo parts are used, AND! the garage is v.a.t. registered your warranty will not be invalidated.

Yes, if the cost seems overly high to you, then get the warranty work done at the Dealer , then the service with an independant.
your warranty will be uneffected and it will save you a few bob.

Do a few search's on here, servicing is a hot topic and there's been many suggestions on how to reduce the cost.

My main point on this, is if you use an independant they won't perform any software updates and the like, that Volvo would.

The dealer would also change anything that would be covered by the warranty that is likely to fail without even telling you.

You can stay with the dealer for the service but take your own oil/filter insert air filter/cabin filter/ to reduce the costs.

I've stuck with the dealer so far, yes it's more expensive but they have always done a good job, and the service has been excellent.
I also have a local mechanic that I used to use for years, and I'm sure he'd do the same service for half the price, but for now, I'll stick with the dealer.
