Default Park assist service required

So I got the message on the dash this morning first thing

So I drove to work and cleaned down the rear sensors with a wet wipe and all was good again until tonight when I got home and they didn't work for reversing into the drive way

Went out and cleaned them down again with tissue, they came back on for a split second but shut down again with the message back on

I threw on Vida and plugged her in and got outer right rear sensor - PAM - B1B4496

So I cleaned them on the outer and reset the fault and the fault came back straight away

So before I order a new sensor, has anyone a suggestion for a fix ?

And if I do have to replace the sensor is it easy to go under the car to pull old out and slot new one in ?

It's a 2008 V70 D5 if that helps

Thanks lads !

Cool, thanks

Funny this morning driving again now and the system is now on but the back right sensor is clearly not reacting to anything but other 3 are normal.

I was thinking about getting a look under and checking the connections, unplug and replug and see if that helps ?

But if not I'll order a new one and fit myself

So just an update

I got a price from Volvo for the sensor, over 90 euro plus vat !

So I got a local place to get me one for 12 euro !

Under the rear bumper, all visible, unclip from socket, unplug and just plug new one in. Working straight away too do no need for vida to reset.

Happy days !

Great stuff Rob.

Where did you get the cheap one? I'm in Manchester, and I'm having the same issue. I haven't plugged in my Vida Dice yet, but it's a 2007 S80 D5, so hopefully it's just a sensor.

I'm just across the water but the one I got from this website

https://www.micksgarage.com/home

I actually tried to order 2 of them just incase but they only had 1 left , but if you leave out your car details, the generic ones are the same

I ordered a generic one and its perfectly fine

Thanks very much Rob, sorry for the late reply. I got 2 on eBay, also about the price you paid, and I’ll do it tomorrow.

Your post gave me the confidence, thanks again.

Just as good to get it from eBay. Really they mostly seem to be the same

Only a rediculous mark up just to get them from Volvo !

Good luck with them, hopefully they do the job for you. Thankfully fitting them is very easy

Only thing I will say when you a fitting them

When you are pulling out the old ones, keep the head away completely, there's plenty of dirt and dust gathering up on the bumper that falls down on you when shaking the wires etc !

Thanks Rob, I did it yesterday and discovered what you mean when I encountered the dirt and dust! I was having trouble getting the new one to “click” in tightly and was starting to panic when I realised it already had a rubber gromit, and I’d put the rubber gromit from the old faulty sensor on it too! Saw the problem, took one of the gromits off and it clicked in nicely.

Incidentally, I saw a set of front grills with parking sensors on eBay. Would you know if it’s worth trying to add front sensors to these cars?

Cheers, hope the isolation is going well.

This is an interesting and useful thread. It would make it a lot easier to follow if you guys would put your car specs in your post signatures so that we could all see what cars you are talking about when you say "these cars" without having to pore over the whole thread looking for any references which you may have made in an earlier post. No offence intended but clarity would be served.
