I looked at the A3 sports back S-line and Golf GTD, I pushed the A3 into £37000! With bells and whistles matching the Volvo although some features the Volvo does not have. The GTD from memory was around the 35k both these figures were before discounts. Even with discounts I doubt they would of come close.

What annoys me most about the V40 is all the cost cutting measures, like not moving the hand brake, no foot rest, not moving the media screen (slightly tilted to passenger/LHD), emergency key access passenger side/LHD, cheaper floor mats, cheaper seats. The list goes on.
If you want to compete against the competition, the little details make all the difference.

I do think it is a great car though, at the right price.
P1 platform handbrake has always been on the left. If you were in other cars it would be an epb though.

Most cars i know have the emergency key on the passenger side.

Floor mats i have never found an issue with in honesty.

Seats volvo like most people on here admit are among the most comfortable. I found most vw ones uncomfortable the problem is they take form over function. Again i class cost cutting by vw as worse as across some of their brands you can see virtually the same design and general seat structure in a 30k golf to a 200k bentley.....

I can understand certain details being left the same in either LHD or RHD to make production easier, with the hand brake I have no issue nor the key. But the screen is little lazy of them after all they must of had to retool to make the dash in RHD so why not angle the screen to the driver by a few degrees.

I am probably being over picky with the details, ha even today my OCD noticed that the 4 rotary dials on the centre console are not central in the cut outs.

I am all to familiar with the VAG group and yes they do a similar thing, it's just that Volvo have been on the rise, and kind of expected more to win the defectors over from the premium brands, especially as they are commanding premium money.

Also I never said the seats were cheap or bad, I find them some of the best in the class comfort wise, it's the removal of the logo, what they call an "customer feedback improvement" more like saving a few pennies by not embroiling the seats, they are still from what I can tell the same seats sans logo.

With all my little issues I still love the car, I just feel they have missed an opportunity by not going the extra mile.
