Default xc90 replacement key cost

Just want an up to date view on this if possible.

Perhaps going to purchase a 2nd hand xc90, and it only has 1 key fob. I'm reading on here it's £260 for a new one - bluergh!

Any other options or dealers that do them cheaper? Hate such ripoffs for something that is prob £1 of electronics in a plastic case.

The "key" consists of a immobiliser key and separate remote in one unit , so you have to buy the key , the remote , the ignition key software and the remote software . This programming can only be done at a dealer or good independant with the correct volvo equipment . You cant do things like this on the cheap ..

A large part of the cost is faff and markup, with a swizzle stick
The physical aspect will be pounds.

Just wanted to know if any legitimate alternatives, but now having read more on google, seems not.

Thanks.

All branded main dealers and manufacturers do this. It's a **** take. There isn't a tenners worth of stuff in one of the keys. When I bought my 90 in January, the original owner had mislaid the 2nd key so I got a new one from the dealer. And it has the new style keyring hanger on it too.

Wow, still over £150 then. Can't believe it all costs so much.

Default Spare key for XC90

We had the same issue - second hand XC90 05 plate, only one key and too great a chance that someone will lose that. Bought a fob on ebay (£25 - usually cheaper but too impatient), bought a brand new uncut blade and transponder, also on ebay £46. Had the key cut in local locksmith (but they need laser cutting equipment) £5.
Volvo dealer insists they cannot reprogram the remote unless it has a code which is only supplied on the box of a brand new part. However they did link the transponder located in the black front half of the new key (the bit holding the blade) to the car (cost £15), so I now have a key which locks, unlocks and starts the car and disables the alarm & immobiliser. The remote buttons don't work, but it's only a spare. Total cost £91.
