Default new to volvo - need some help

Just bought a s40 1.6d 55reg with 80k on clock but i have a few questions.

1) When does cambelt need changing, keep hearing varing things? (12yrs/150k or 7yrs/90k)

2) if my car has a 3 or 4 as 8 digit of vin does it have dpf?

3) my spare key does have key blade, have i got to go to dealer to get new blade cut? (have bought a blank blade off ebay)

4) my temp guage reads minus 5 when its about 20c. i know this is in the wing mirror on passenger side, do i remove wing mirror or disconnect wires in the door (is there a link / guide of how to do this anywhere)

5) what is service interval if using for mainly about town driving?

Thanks in advance

Steve

If it has a 3 then no, if it has a 4 then yes.

No need to remove the mirror, just the door harness and check the pins, they might be corroded in which case the harness is replaced at the dealers with one with gold plated pins... not cheap though, so you could try cleaning and greasing them, might help, but it wouldn't be a permanent fix to the issue.

hi i assume by key blade you mean the emergency blade held within the key itself ? in that case then yes it will need to be cut & the elecronic part that unlocks the doors & works the imobilliser will need setting up by the dealer ,, good luck with the price on that !!

Thanks for the illustration i ll try that at the weekend.

Is it 8th digit (letters and numbers) of vin or 8th number of vin indicates dpf?

Also bought spare key, will probably just use blade on spare key so i can use key on keyring. cannot be bothered paying to get third key programmed

Do a search for DPF, vin no or just trawl through and you will find the answers you are seeking.
Cant remember offhand the vin character numbers, but its been on here a lot so just search away.

Just wondered if Im missing something like I said, i have done searches on here regarding the DPF etc and quite a few people have put that the eighth character is the defining number, 4=no dpf/euro 4 and 5=Dpf with additive /euro 5,The VIN i checked had the eighth character as a 5 but the automatic description of the vehicle agve the car as an s40 2.0d euro4 so what i am reading seems to conflict unless its me

thanks in advance
