My local garage quoted me £259 inc VAT. But they can't update software. The local dealer has an offer of free 12 month Volvo Assistance. It doesn't really interest me as I have roadside breakdown cover anyway. Btw, my car is xc90.

Software updates are important, especially if its a newer vehicle (you haven’t said what year it is).

Its likely that a Volvo main dealer will be more expensive than a local garage. I don’t know how much exactly. Check with your dealer.

it is a 2016 xc90.

An update - the local dealer told me it is £294 including a free volvo breakdown cover. It is tempting compared my trustworthy local garage's £259.

That is a basic service... you should have had the cambelt and Aux belts etc done last time if your mileage is over 108000 miles.

Thanks for the info. My xc90 is just below 80,000 miles. The dealer told me that the 7th service includes chaining oil, oil filter and air filter. And the price is VAT included.

Seeming though there's little difference in the cost between main dealer and your local garage, I'd go to the dealer. They can also do the software updates, which your local garage can't.
