T4 turbocharger into a 2.0T?
Has anyone ever replaced a 12t turbo from a 2.0T with a 14t turbo from a T4?
How successful was it? Did it adversly affect the compression ratio? Did the ECU have to be re-mapped? Any advice and comments would be greatfully received. |

It can be done quite easily a remap is recommended as well though. Get over to http://www.s40concepts.net/ there are loads of Americans that have done it as they didnt get the T4 there.

As others have said, it's a common upgrade for the 2.0T to have. It will have no effect on compression ratio and it will run on the standard 2.0T map. One thing to note is the 14T flows around 50% more than the 12T, in other words, 10psi in the 14T is roughly 15psi in the 12T. Keep this in mind if you're planning on upping the boost on the standard map, I'd keep it relitivley conservetive and run a max of 8-9psi. Obviously, it would be best to have the car remapped to get the best out of it. Good luck!

The next question is then, where do we get it remapped so it accomidates the new turbo,
Am guessing its just a normal 2.0t remap tweeked abit, I was going to be fitting new turbo this weekend but it looks as if am putting a new engine in my mates fiesta instead now, only had the turbo 6 months now i will get round to fitting it eventually (i hope).

Hi Rooster,
I guess it really depends on what you hope to get out of the car. If its just to get it running safely, then it may be possible to do that by "tweaking" the standard map. If you want maximum performance, then its probably going to need much more than that; you're getting into the realms of a custom map. I believe that 230ish bhp has been attained on a 2.0T with 14T turbo (+ exhaust).

With regards to maps, I'd reccomend running the 14T at a max of ~9psi on the standard map just to be safe. If you've had the 12T remapped and already boosting around 14psi (without a boost controller) then you should be safe with ~15psi on the 14T. Ultimately, get it mapped by Marco / MTE. The latter is the most expensive (by a fair bit) but will be the safest and give the most optimal performance for YOUR car. And just to cover my own bacon, you do all of the above at your own risk blah blah blah... Andy |

might be a bit of a stupid newbie question but whats the difference between a t4 and a 2.0T
i know the t4's (early ones at least) are 1.9 turbo but thats all..... |

In terms of the engine / performance etc., just the turbo (I believe) which generates more boost as the guys above have described in some detail. Which is why people like Rooster are planning to fit the 14T turbo to their cars (although as he says above, he hasn't got round to it yet )...
Now that I seem to have got my phase 1 T4's turbo working, but still have the phase 2 T4 to drive around in, I can tell you that the phase 2 does feel a bit faster because the turbo pulls more from lower revs so you feel the torque is there a bit sooner. As has been described elsewhere, the turbo on the phase 2 is a twin spool one so it spins up to boost quicker. Also as you say the phase 2 is a 2.0L engine, plus some early phase 1s do not have the VVT (although I think mine does as it is a later one) which may impact performance (although is mainly there for economy I think). I'm running a 2.0t with MBC set at around 13psi (spiking at around 15psi), i do have induction and full system with decat!!!! When i looked into it on the S40 concepts sites it came back as 15psi is a safe limit without a remap but you do need exhaust and induction done!!! I did have mine dyno'd at SW autos free day and was running 155whp in 30 degree heat, should be around 165whp on a colder day, as for crank figure's I've been told it'll be anything from 190bhp to 230bhp!!! |
