V70 D5 Climate Control doesn't get hot
Hi guys,
I'm having an absolute nightmare of a time with my 2004/2005 V70 D5, in that I can't get any heat from my heater at all. It works as it should, the buttons operate the damper motors and other parts as it should, with the exception of it getting warm. The coolant level and temperature is fine, the pipes going to the matrix get hot but no hot air comes out. Some people have suggested that the little wire on the cabin temp sensor may be broken, I took it apart yesterday and it's bent but intact. From what I've read this would only affect the auto climate control, and with a duff sensor you could override it on full hot setting. I've bought VIDA to tackle this, the original codes came up as CCM-0063 and CCM-0064, which is a fault with the damper motors. But since clearing the codes it hasn't come back and the damper motors appear to move as they should. I've recalibrated the damper motors about 10 times and nothing. I bought a replacement heater control panel off of eBay to try to swap the innards over, but I bought the wrong one and it wasn't compatible. I don't know what else to try. Would a replacement CCM be a good route? Could I match this to the car using my own VIDA or is it a dealer job? Any ideas?

Check the simple things first.
Have you had any work done on the cooling system? - airlocks can be hard to find. Do both pipes to and from the matrix get hot? You have probably checked this but always worth asking. What happens if you tell the car to blow hot air? Put everything on max, both zone temps and fan level. The CCMs are not coded to the car IIRC Last edited by The Edge; Jan 26th, 2015 at 19:46. |

I've not done anything to the cooling system since I bought it in June, it was serviced in the garage prior to purchase. I'll check out an airlock but I don't think it's the culprit. Any tips on the best way to find one on these engines? I'm used to my (simple) 240!
Both pipes to the matrix get hot. When I put it on full hot it blows cold, there's an audible change when the mixer closes over from cold to hot.

The D5 takes an age to get warm in this weather.
Takes a good 15-20 minutes to start blowing decent head for me. |

The week before last I drove 4 hours from Devon to Gatwick and the heater was still cold...!

My D5 warms up quite quickly (within a few miles). I guess your engine temp gauge is sat at about 12 o'clock position so that would indicate you don't have a stuck thermostat.
Definitely sounds like a problem with the flaps not moving into the correct position to allow warm air through. |

You must definitely have a rare breed of D5 then as mine takes a good 20 - 25mins driving to get upto temperature.
The car wont give out any substantial heat before the engine is warmed up and at optimal temperature. Unfortunately in the eyes of the onboard computer-me-bobs, us passengers in the cabin simply arent a priority for any heat produced by the stupidly efficient diesel engine when cold. (Which is a good thing i guess) |
