Strange sump repair on my S60.
Seems like a good repair nevertheless! The sump is bone dry with no leaks, I actually noticed the very well sealed, clean sump before i noticed the repair patch, just confused, curious even as to how damage would occur in that place!
Whoever did it, did a great job of sealing the sump anyway.

noticed the replacement material, quite original. maybe they decided to cut a hole in the sump to check the suction pipe and didn't want to go the long way?

If it holds then happy days. It's one of those bodged repairs that actually works, and gives the car a bit of character at the same time. It's a piece of modern Volvo art

That's about the same place my old S60 had a sump repair. That wasn't as nice as a piece of chequer plate though, but was oil tight.
No idea what the cause had been, although that one had had a prang in it's past life before I bought it, so was putting it down to a bodged repair. |

Agreed.
The sump is the recommended place to support/lift the engine when doing the offside wishbones, which being an S60, it will have inevitably needed at some point.

Same as mine..only found out when I had a massive oil leak yet engine oil level didn't go down. Sump had been repaired before and the repair had failed. Finally worked out my DPF wasn't regenerating. My theory is the fuel added to the oil increased the pressure in the sump until the original repair patch failed.
Had the sump sealed, oil changed and DPF software reset so will have to wait a while to see if it happens again. When I first got my car it needed a new driveshaft on the passenger side so I am wondering if the sump repair had something to do with that. Perhaps the previous owner hit something in the road which damaged both shaft and sump. Kinda thankful it was damaged and failed as without that oil leak I would not have known the DPF wasn't regenerating.
