Default Purchasing a Volvo xc90 2011 advice appriciated

Hi all,

I am spending this friday looking at as many xc90 as i can. i have short listed 5 i am hoping to view them all on friday. they are all 2011 plus and under 100k miles. varying in price from 8k-12k. variuos models from the basic active to top spec executive and r-design.

I would appriciate any advice on common faults any issues to look out for. what history should the cars have service intervals ect. dont want to catch a cold on one. so ive decided to ask on here as i figuered the best information would come from owners and experts of these cars.

I tend to get sucked in by the higher spec models but i know the more gadgets the more to go wrong.

Thanks ever so Scott.

The big service is at 108000 miles/ 10 years which ever comes first so people will have sold to miss paying for this i guess !

Servicing is every 18000 miles or every year which ever comes first ,

check the parking brake on a hill , it could cost £500 to get it working properly .

go for a long test drive to get the auto gearbox up to temperature , check for any jerks between gears or when going into D or N dip the oil it should be bright red if well looked after or black/brown if neglected .

have a casual look at the brake discs , for wear lips on the outer edges , a full brake overhaul can cost £800 or so ..

get them to put a fresh MOT on it , that will pick up anything else !

Thank you for those tips, i will keep an eye out for those. im only going 2011 and up for the 200bhp engine. is there any diffrence to the 185 other than power output? witch is more problem free. my local mechanic advised to go for the 163 because of dfp/egr issues on the later models.

The 163 bhp was only available up to about early 2006.

Do not go 163. That engine stopped in about 2005. So those models are much older and have many other age related problems
