Default xc90 engine removal

My son-inlaws 53 plate xc90 geartronic D5 has lost its oil between engine and transmission. I have a feeling this is core plug and or crank seal. Can I take the engine out the top rather than drop the sub frame. Done several v70s but not an xc90.
Any advice or tips much appreciated.

You would need an adjustable beam with two chains so that you can vary the tilt as you lift it out .. but you have to get the angle gear out first so maybe no real advantage to taking the gearbox out ...

It’s most likely the crank seal and yes the engine will lift out quite easily, lots of room in the 90. Easier and quicker than dropping the subframe.
