BestGear,

You're right, the build quality on these cars is solid.

However, when I released the offside part of the bumper (the upper bit that's colour coded) it was then clear that my dealer had previously struggled when replacing a failed sensor a few years back.

They had used some kind of epoxy resin stuff to fix the clips in. Aagh!

I may have to repeat their 'trick' when refitting the bumper to get a flush finish. If you have any suggestions as to the type of 'stuff' they might have used then I would be grateful. Otherwise, it'll be a trip & chat to the boys at Car Parts 4 U in Galashiels next weekend!

Regards.

I would guess they used a hot melt glue gun..... but think I would reattach with some (not a huge blob!) silicon so you know you can remove it again in the future if you need to.

Default Job done - thank you!

BestGear, you are a star!!!!!

eBay parking sensors arrived on Tuesday (£17 each & ordered on Saturday).

Replaced the sensors, tested them before refitting the front & rear bumper and everything worked first time, warning message gone.

You & your photos have saved me at least £400 and for that, my friend, we are very grateful.

Best wishes.

Default Xc90 bumper removal

Dear BestGear, you post on bumper removal has been very helpful, thank you.
Unfortunately my my bumper and bumper cover sustained minor injuries (scuffs and dings in the corner below rear right light assembly) I know both painted and black textured will need to be replaced. I was wondering about the park assist, and whether or not I will need to buy a bumper with or without it. (Mine seems fine now, and there is a a bit of a price difference between bumpers sold with compared to those without) Any advice would be great, thanks!

Default XC90 rear bumper cover

Most appreciative of the photos showing the rear cover removal. Would like to know how the three pieces of the bumper cover are separated.

You may find the thread below useful if dealing with faulty sensor(s). Mine are still working perfectly after the thorough cleaning I carried out!

Also, if you end up with more than one faulty sensor, the suggestion from Clan seems most cost-effective.

Great write up.
Can anyone give anymore advice of unclipping the sides of the rear bumper from the wheel arches ? This sounds the hardest bit of the job.

Would inserting a credit card in the gap between the bumper and wheel arch realse the clips ?

Thanks

Yes 5 mm but they are not the usual ones they are light duty alloy/plastic so when you pull the pop rivet it doesnt damage or split the plastic panels with the expansion force .
