Default Volvo Extended Warranty - Cost

Did anyone take out an extended warranty on their XC90?

We want to extend ours to 5yrs as we want to keep the car at least that long, but don't want to own a car as complicated as this outside of warranty - not least as we have opted for Air Suspension which is probably the most expensive part likely to fail over time.

Our dealership have quoted me £1099 to extend to 5yrs but on the paperwork it appears that this is a 2yr extension by the dealer franchise and essentially an insurance product, not an extension of the manufacturer warranty.

Did anyone else extend/look into extending/know anything about it? Costs etc?

This is what I've been quoted for:

Quote:
AVOID PAYING THOSE UNEXPECTED REPAIR BILLS
A modern car is an extremely reliable machine. But it is also an
extremely complex one, with thousands of sophisticated moving parts.
This means that, should anything go wrong, the cost of repairs can come
as an unexpected surprise. That’s when the Marshall Care Warranty
package comes in handy.
COMPLETE PEACE OF MIND
Covers the majority of mechanical and electrical component failure items.
Covers full parts, labour and VAT costs with no excesses.
No limit to the number of claims you can make; up to the original purchase price of your vehicle.
Only manufacturer approved replacement parts are used in a warranty repair.
No customer contributions, where warranty repair replaces old for new parts.
Replacement vehicle up to a midsized saloon provided in the event of a warranty repair.
Overnight accommodation and rail fares paid up to £60 in the event the vehicle cannot be repaired under warranty within 24 hours.
Marshall Assist Breakdown and Recovery is included within the Marshall Care Warranty on warranty terms of 12 months or more.
The majority of MOT test failure items are also covered under a Marshall Care Warranty

"Covers the majority of mechanical and electrical component failure items."

This is the sentence you should be most concerned about !!!
Otherwise sounds okay, so long as you keep the car and remain close to your delership since it isn't a Volvo warranty.

Did you get a quote for Volvo Extended Warranty?
When I was ordering my V90 from Marshall's of Welwyn I was offered what I recall as a 6 year (3 + 3) warranty for about £1200. I rejected it so didn't take too much notice at the time. I just assumed that it was a Volvo product. I may have been wrong. The 5 year service plan at £500 that I took up was, I checked.

When I got my car last year the dealer said that a Volvo extended warranty wasn't available.

Given my experience so far, I'd say an extended warranty of some kind is essential if you plan on keeping the car (assuming the price is reasonable).

On my last XC90 and the C70 I received a letter offering extended warranty from volvo about 3 months before the 3 year warranty expired. I guess that will be the case with the XC90 - but since none are approaching the 3 year point yet I doubt the extended warranty is currently available.

they will be waiting to set a price nearer the time maybe! The volvo warranties I have bought before were administered by Car Care Plan Ltd - approved by Volvo, but possibly not run by Volvo.

The website is here

There is a number to call - so someone could ask them about the XC90.

Volvo have now switched to another provider for new contracts. This new provider also administers the extended service plans, etc.

I don't know if existing contracts will continue to be administered by Car Care Plan Ltd.

EDIT: The new provider is Allianz Assistance.

The Volvo Service Plan is administered on behalf of Volvo Car UK Limited by:
Mondial Assistance (UK) Limited, 102 George Street, Croydon, Surrey, CR9 6HD, trading as
Allianz Global Assistance and Volvo Service Plan Administration Services.

Given the problems that are being experienced with the new XC90 and the complexitiy they might not want to take the risk of offering an extended warranty or make it very expensive.

Ah OK so everything everyone has said here suggests that even the official Volvo products are insurance policies and not true extended warranties - if they are Allianz/Mondial policies?

Thanks for the replies

Doesn't the AA have a scheme that will cover what the extended warranty covers and is cheaper.
